Rudolf Abraham is an award-winning writer and photographer whose love of travel and remote places has taken him from the Balkans to eastern Turkey, Central Asia and Patagonia. He has written, illustrated or contributed to numerous books, guidebooks and articles on these areas - from trekking in remote mountains and national parks, to historic architecture, culture and reportage. During his travels he has trekked in the Karakoram, the Tien Shan, Ladakh, New Zealand’s Southern Alps, Patagonia, and the mountains of Iran and eastern Turkey. He lived in Croatia from 1999 to 2001, and has made numerous trips into the mountains of Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.
Rudolf studied fine arts, majoring in photography, and completed an MA in Islamic art and archaeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
He is the author of Walking in Croatia (2nd edition 2010), The Mountains of Montenegro (2007, winner 'best guidebook' in the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild Awards for Excellence, 2008) and a guide to Torres del Paine (2010), all published by Cicerone, and National Geographic Traveler Croatia (2011). He is currently working on guidebooks to the mountains of eastern Turkey, long distance trails in Northumberland and trekking in Arctic Norway. Other recent commissions have included contributing to DK Eyewitness' The World on a Plate and The Road Less Travelled, and updating the Bradt guide to Croatia and Thomas Cook Ljubljana. He has written features for hidden europe, BBC Countryfile, CNN Traveller, OE, Heritage and Wanderlust, and is a regular contributor to Alamy and Photographers Direct. He also writes on Islamic art and architecture. Rudolf is a member of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild, the British Guild of Travel Writers and Writers and Photographers unLimited.
He lives in London.
