Short biog
David initially trained as a teacher and went on to be a Head of Mathematics at Helston School before leaving the profession in his mid thirties to follow a career in photography and writing. His writing, particularly when combined with his photographs, has proved to be very popular and he now writes monthly natural history articles for a wide range of magazines including Cornwall Today, Devon Life, The Caravan Club Magazine, Somerset Life and Smallholder. He also writes regular travel and photography articles for MMM (Motorhome magazine); regular conservation articles for The Countryman and occasional articles for a number of other publications such as the English Nature magazine, Home & Country, The Lady, Bird Watching and Birds Illustrated. He also has experience of writing for two photographic magazines. David provides slides for use in several publications including Bird Watching, Bird’s Illustrated, Garden's Monthly and Natural World as well as having his images used in calendars worldwide. As well as having his own slide library David's images are stocked by several other photographic libraries.
David is committed to protecting the environment and apart from having his own 'nature reserve' on his smallholding he is also a council member and trustee of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. He regularly uses his writing to forward the aims of conservation groups and to raise awareness of the difficulties facing our wildlife.

Business interests
David manages 'Rural Images' slide library, an image library stocking some 30,000 transparencies on the subject of British natural history, conservation, farming and the rural landscape.

Professional activities
David is a natural history photographer and writer providing images and articles to a wide range of magazines, calendars and conservation organisations. He has also established a business selling photo-based products such as cards, key rings and fridge magnets through a wide range of outlets. On his smallholding, in Cornwall, David operates 'Badger Watching' evenings. Between his photographic trips around Britain David gives lectures and talks to interested groups in the south west.

Awards:
David has won four awards from the Outdoor Writer's Guild in his first three years of membership: 2002 OWG Awards for Excellence (Photography); 2002 OWG Awards for Excellence (for a series of features entitled 'Out and About' published in Cornwall Today). 2004 OWG Awards for Excellence (Photography); 2004 OWG Awards for Excellence (for a series of features entitled 'Nature's Way' published in The Caravan Club magazine).
As well as these David has also won many awards for his photography including several from the Cornwall Photographic Alliance.

Recent publications
David has recently written a book entitled 'Wild About Cornwall' which will be published in March 2007, this book features locations around the county that are good for wildlife, a little about their history and conservation as well as the wildlife that can be seen there. He is now working on a further four books with publisher Alison Hodge. David regularly has calendars of his photography published and many of his photographs have appeared in publications.

Main areas of interest
All of David's efforts are concentrated on conservation and the natural history of Britain. Since he lives in Cornwall the south west is obviously a particular strength of his work but he has undertaken many trips to remote Scottish islands as well as many other places around the UK which are renowned for wildlife, these include: Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Lancashire, New Forest, Isle of Wight, Wales, Isles of Scilly, Skomer, Farnes, Northumberland, Fife, Moray Firth, Shetland, Orkney, Outer Hebrides, Cornwall, Devon, Somerset,Yorkshire.
