As an expatriate'scouser' now living near Southport, I have spent most of my 58 years in the newspaper and magazine publishing business; starting with the Liverpool Journal of Commerce and Shipping Telegraph as a traineed reporter, back in 1964.
My professional career has fostered a personal obsession for worldwide travel writing, photography, natural history and particularly birdwatching - now known as birding.
|
| Managing Editor, GDP Associates. Besides researching, writing and editing publications of a wide variety of subjects, I also project the entire publishing process, from original concept through to final print and production. I have 30 years expertise in attracting suitable sponsorship for titles.
|
Hobby Publications was launched in 1990, as my own imprint and an irregular but constant flow of titles has included ; the Birds of the United Arab Emirates (1990), Birds on Film (1994), The Shell Guide to Birdwatching in the UAE (1996), The History of the Liverpool Parks (2000), the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Lancashire & N. Merseyside (2001), Martin Mere – a Dream Comes True (2002) , Sun, Sand and Silver Wings (2004) and Wild Mynd (2007)
I have also researched, written, designed and published a series of visitor and specialist interest guides, such as the Walkers' Guide to the Sefton Coast, the Birders' Guide to the Sefton Coast, the Cycling & Walking Guide to Southport and Sefton, the Visitors' Guide to East Sefton and Wild Altside.
Various articles/features about bird watching and travel experiences have appeared on both websites and in printed media, on places as diverse as Extremadura and the Pyrenees in Spain, the 'Spergebeit' in Namibia and various locations in Sweden, Finland and Norway. I also write a irregular column about wildlife, conservation and sustainable living and generally attempt to be an active supporter of environmental improvement and wildlife conservation.
