David Else is a professional travel writer and broadcaster. He has written around 30 guidebooks for tourists and travellers, including several editions of the best-selling Lonely Planet guides to England and Great Britain, and numerous guides to various countries in Africa.
David's other travels have taken him to many parts of Europe, as well as trekking in the Himalaya, whale-watching in Mexico and dodging icebergs in the Arctic.
David contributes articles to national newspapers and magazines such as The Independent, Beautiful Britain, Travel Africa, Lonely PLanet Magazine and Club UK, covering a wide range of aspects, from city sights and hotels to national parks and outdoor activities. He has also provided content to commercial publications produced by VisitBritain, EnjoyEngland and local tourism bodies.
David also broadcasts regularly on several local BBC radio stations covering general travel topics, ranging from insurance to exchange rates, and from round-the-world-trips for over-60s to UK beach holidays with children.
When not at his desk, David is an active hill walker. Specialist guidebooks based on this passion and experience include three editions of Lonely Planet's guide Walking in Britain.
David is also a keen road cyclist (touring, audax and sportives) and mountain biker. He work has appeared in Cycling Weekly and Cycling Active magazines, and on the road.cc cycling website.
