Paddy Dillon is a keen and dedicated walker with a great knowledge of walking opportunities throughout the British Isles, as well as around Europe and further afield.
Paddy is author and illustrator of over 40 guidebooks, half of them published by Cicerone Press, covering all parts of the British Isles and selected parts of Europe. He has contributed words and pictures to more than 20 other guidebooks, and has written and illustrated more than a dozen tourism brochures and booklets.
Paddy is an indefatigable long-distance walker, keen hillwalker, dedicated island-hopper and travels world-wide. He has delivered lectures and has appeared on radio and TV.
During 2008 Paddy completely overhauled his guidebook, Walking in Madeira. He also walked a new waymarked trail, the Drystone Route, through the mountains of Mallorca, to produce a trekking guidebook. Paddy visited the Isles of Scilly to update another guidebook, now in its third edition. The long-distance Reivers Way was followed around Northumberland as a new guidebook project. One of Paddy's earliest guidebooks, Walking in the North Pennines, was completely overhauled, updated and expanded.
During 2009, Paddy starts work on a five volume series of guidebooks covering all seven of the Canary Islands, working from west to east. El Hierro and La Gomera come first, followed by La Palma, then Tenerife. Gran Canaria will be followed by Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Sardinia was the subject of an early summer exploration, while the later summer months will be devoted to an exciting trek along the Arctic Circle Trail in Greenland.
Paddy is currently walking the Pennine Way while researching a new guidebook to this classic National Trail.
