Jacquetta Megarry is a walker and photographer turned publisher, based in Dunblane. A late-onset interest in long-distance walking and trekking led her to devise and launch a new rucksack-friendly book format in 2000. Her list now has over 30 titles.
Rucksack Readers have drop-down route maps, concise text and lots of photos and other visuals on water-resistant paper. Early titles were Scottish long-distance walks (e.g. West Highland and Great Glen Ways) soon followed by the Rob Roy Way – a route which (with another walker) she devised in 2001. Since 2009 the format has extended into England with Coast to Coast, Dales Way and three National Trails (Cleveland Way, Hadrian's Wall Path and South Downs Way).
The Irish series comprises the Causeway Coast Way in Antrim; and Dingle, Kerry and WIcklow Ways in the Republic. International titles include the Tour of Mont Blanc, Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), the Inca Trail (Peru) and the Great Wall of China.
In 2005 she launched a pocket series of guidebooks to climbing the seven continental summits and has released Aconcagua, Denali, Everest and Kilimanjaro to date. In 2005 she published also the hardback "Call of the Wild" to celebrate 25 years of the OWG (now OWPG).
